Washington County’s Department of Land Use and Transportation, along with its design engineer, David Evans and Associates, invites interested neighbors to attend an open house Thursday December 4, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:30 pm at St Pius X’s Community Center, 1280 NW Saltzman Rd, Cedar Mill regarding the upcoming improvements scheduled for Saltzman between Cornell and Thompson Roads. The project will improve and widen NW Saltzman Road to three lanes (two travel lanes and a center turn lane), make safety and intersection improvements, add bike lanes and sidewalks, street lights, storm water drainage improvements and some landscaping. This is the third in a series of public open houses that will be held for this project. The project team will present the final roadway design (Cornell to Bauer Woods Drive) and the construction schedule, and solicit issues and concerns from area residents and business owners on the design. Due to limited funding, the project has been divided into two phases: Phase 1 from Cornell Road to Bauer Woods Drive (south) and Phase 2 from Bauer Woods Drive to Thompson Road. The project is funded by property taxes through the County’s general fund (carrying on the Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program, or MSTIP). At this time, only the final design, right-of-way acquisition and construction for Phase 1 have been funded. As part of the county’s public involvement process, a Project Focus Group (PFG) made up of local residents and business owners was formed; they have been meeting periodically over the last year. The PFG was instrumental in identifying issues and concerns of area residents as well in assisting the design team in the alignment of the new road.
Final Design and Right of Way acquisition should be complete by spring 2009. Utility relocations will begin next spring.Road construction is scheduled for spring 2009 and will last through fall 2010.For further information please contact Matthew Costigan, Sr. Project Manager, 503-846-7800, or matthew_costigan@co.washington.or.us or access the project website www.deainc.com/saltzmanroad.
Washington County is committed to building and maintaining the best transportation system, ensuring the safety of all roadway users, and operating the county roadway system in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner.
